Loudon, Tennessee -- The number of foam manufacturers offering CertiPUR-US registered foams has risen to nine, putting this voluntary certification and labelling programme for flexible foam on the radar for an increasing number of makers of furniture and bedding, as well as retailers, said a 12 May statement from the US Polyurethane Foam Association (PFA).
The latest companies to offer CertiPUR-US certified foams include: Flexible Foam Products Inc, Spencerville, Ohio; FXI Foamex Innovations, Media, Pennsylvania; Premier Foam Inc., Newnan, Georgia; Advanced Urethane Technologies/Sleep Innovations, West Chicago, Illionois; and Sinomax USA Inc., Houston, Texas.
The accreditation means these manufacturers are offering foams that meet stringent environmental, health and safety guidelines for foam used in upholstered furniture and bedding.
On 12 May, Simmons Bedding Co. announced that all of the polyurethane-based foams in the company's mattress lines have earned CertiPUR-US certification, said the PFA.
Companies already Certipur-US registered are Future Foam, Hickory Springs, NCFI Polyurethanes and Prestige Fabricators.
"Retail interest is also driving the momentum," said Bob Luedeka, executive director of the Alliance for Flexible Polyurethane Foam (AFPF), which oversees the scheme. "We're seeing a number of retailers who are specifying CertiPUR-US certified foams, including Nature's Sleep and BedinaBox.com that are specifying certified foams exclusively."
Luedeka predicts this trend will grow so that an increasing number of manufacturers and retailers specify CertiPUR-US foam products. "The CertiPUR-US label certifies the foam has passed independent testing to assure compliance with the programme's voluntary standards for emissions and content.
"We are also seeing CertiPUR-US used as a value-added marketing tool to answer the questions of a growing number of consumers who want a greater level of comfort and confidence in the furniture and mattresses they buy," he added.
