Wilmington, Delaware — Blowing-agent company Chemours saw sales in its Fluoroproducts segment rise by 1% in 2016 compared to 2015 to $ 2.3 bn primarily on increased volumes of its Opteon refrigerants and fluoropolymers.
The company said that EBITDA for 2016 was $ 445 m in the segment, up 48% compared to the previous year as a court because of increasing adoption of Opteon technology and cost reductions.
The company's Fluoroproducts business includes Teflon fluoropolymers, Viton fluoroelastomers and Opteon refrigerants and blowing agents.
Sales in the fourth quarter of 2016 were $569 m up 10% compared to the final quarter of 2015, driven by strong demand for Opteon refrigerants, and EBITDA at $111 m was up 39% compared to the 2015 quarter, the firm said.
Chemours recently agreed to chip in to the DuPont PFOA settlement, PFOA was a chemical used to make PTFE for many years.
Overall in 2016, Chemours had sales of $5.4 bn and EBITDA of $822 m.
