Delaware, US – Chemours has had its near-term greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets approved by the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi). This includes its existing goal of an absolute reduction of 60% in its Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, and a new Scope 3 target of a 25% reduction per ton of production by the same date.
SBTi is a collaboration between the Carbon Disclosure Project, the World Resources Institute, the World Wildlife Fund, and the UN Global Compact. It aims to define and promote best practice in science-based target setting, independently assessing and approving companies’ targets.
“Receiving approval for our near-term science-based emissions reduction targets from the SBTi marks a critical milestone in Chemours’ sustainability journey,” said Amber Wellman, the company’s chief sustainability officer. “This validation signals we are moving in the right direction, and we are proud to be a leader in our industry. Working together with our partners, we will continue to create a better world through the power of our chemistry.”
