Philadelphia, Pennsylvania -- Chemtura Corp. announced 19 March 2012 that it is raising capacity for its Adiprene and Vibrathane high-performance polyurethane prepolymers at the company's Latina Scalo facility in Italy.
Engineering work at the Latina site is already complete said Chemtura, adding that it has already begun the startup of the additional production.
"Growing demand for our market leading range of Adiprene/Vibrathane prepolymers, driven primarily by the commercialisation of our mercury-free, MDI-based product lines, has motivated our decision to increase capacity in Europe," said Stephen Lewis, EMEA business director, Chemtura Urethanes, in the announcement.
"Local manufacturing capacity is critical to the Urethanes business," Lewis said. "Our customers need the ability to respond quickly and efficiently to local market demand and to satisfy their own customers' lead-time requirements. The additional capacity at Latina will provide the flexibility our customers need to remain competitive."
"This investment further supports our strategic growth of the Urethanes business in the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region," added Matthew Hellstern, president, Chemtura Urethanes, noting that the group is also planning to enhance its EMEA technical development centre, also based at Latina. This will enable Chemtura to offer customers in the region even better technical support, Hellstern added.
Chemtura's prepolymers are used in a multitude of industrial applications and markets where high wear resistance, toughness and durability are essential requirements.
