Latina, Italy -- Chemtura Corp is expanding MDI polyurethane elastomers production capacity at its European facility.
The expansion is due for completion by the end of 2016 and has been prompted by regulation restricting MbOCA use within the European Union, the company said. Chemtura's Adiprene low free MDI prepolymers form part of its MbOCA replacement technology.
MbOCA use in polyurethane production is being restricted by REACH legislation from November 2017, as we reported in our March 2015 feature about the changes in legislation around MbOCA use in the EU.
The expansion is also designed to complement capability in Gastonia, North Carolina, leaving the US plant “greater flexibility to balance production between the different low free prepolymer chemistries,” the company said.
