Oxford, UK — China made 1.9m passenger vehicles in June 2019. This is a 17.0% fall compared with June 2018, according to consultants LMC Automotive.
The consultants estimate that in 2019, total passenger vehicle production will be down by about 6% on 2018. They suggest production could fall to 21.8m units. This prediction is unchanged from last month.
June's 17% fall in production is in response to a change in emission standards that is set to come into force in a few months' time, said LMC.
The group added that, while production was lower, June sales figures were higher than June 2018. This is because the industry was able to successfully unwind stocks of State V vehicles,' it said. Production dropped as car makers got ready to make vehicles to the new standard.
'The market is in recovery mode and gives us greater confidence in forecasting a rebound in the final quarter of 2019,' the consultants said.
