Beijing – China imported 97kT monomeric MDI in 2020, up 12% from 2019, according to the country’s General Administration of Customs.
Korea was the largest supplying market in 2020, with 47kT material shipped. This is a 16% increase from 2019. Japan was in second place with 43kT, about flat from a year ago. The two countries combined accounted for 93% of China’s monomeric MDI imports last year.
It exported 99kT of monomeric MDI in 2020, down 12% year on year. Taiwan was the largest destination market with 14kT shipped, followed by Vietnam with 11.6kT. India was third with 11.5kT, up nearly a third from a year ago.
For polymeric MDI, China’s 2020 imports reached 369kT, a 16% increase on 2019. The largest supplying market was Saudi Arabia with 158kT shipped, followed by Japan with 96kT and Korea with 89kT. Imports from Korea surged 19% in the year. The three countries took up 96% of China’s total imports.
The country exported 613kT polymeric MDI last year, down 2% from 2019. The US was the largest destination country with 127kT shipped.
