Beijing – China exported 4.7m refrigerators and freezers, in August 2019. The number is down by 2.1% from August 2018.

The value of the exports dropped 2.4% compared with a year ago. A total of $660m-worth were shipped in August, the latest month for which figures are available, said China’s General Administration of Customs.

Total export over the first eight month of 2019 reached 38m units. This is up 7.9% compared with the same period in 2018. But the total value of exports showed a smaller increase of 4.7% year on year to $5.2bn.

The country’s refrigerator production mirrored the export situation. Production in August 2019 reached 7m unit. This is down by 5.2% from a year ago and by 4.5% from July. Eight-month production climbed 2.8% to 57.4m units, said the National Bureau of Statistics.

It is worth noting that freezers alone showed strong growth. China made 1.6m freezers in August. This is up 11.4% from a year ago and by 9% from July. Looking at the first eight months of 2019, freezer production jumped 13.4% to 13.3m units.
