Oxford, UK — Passenger vehicle production in China was 1.0m units in March 2020. This is a 49.0% fall compared with March 2019, according to consultants LMC Automotive. It is something of a rebound from the 80% drop in February.
Looking at the year to date figures LMC Automotive said that a total of 2.661m units had been produced in the first three months of 2020. This is a fall of 48% compared with the same period in 2019.
The consultants estimate that in 2020, total passenger vehicles made in China will be 21.3m units.
LMC Automotive said that the lockdown was lifted progressively in February and March, allowing production, wholesales and dealership activity to gradually return to normal. 'Market recovery was considerably better than expected... as pent-up demand during the lockdown period was released.' said LMC Automotive.
