The project, located at the Togtoh Industrial Park in Hohhot, was first announced in 2017. Shanxi Industrial Equipment Installation Group (SIEIG) is the lead contractor.
Jiutia said the project covers 170 ha (420 acre), and investment is CNY 13.3bn ($1.9 bn). The company added that it expects the new facility will generate CNY 10.6bn annual sales, said SIEIG.
If all goes to plan, then there will be trial runs in 2020, and the plant will come on stream in 2021.
The new project will help fix the weak points of the area’s chemical industry, according to SIEIG.
In the meantime, Air Products has signed contract to supply syngas to the project. It will invest $650 m to build and operate the facility.
