Yinchuan, Ningxia – Ningxia Kunpeng Clean Energy signed a contract on 11 December to build a new plant for ethylene glycol.
The plant will be located in Yinchuan’s Ningdong Energy and Chemical Industry Base. It will have 400kT/year capacity. Construction is set to start in March, and the plant is scheduled come on stream in September 2021, according to the local government's website.
The project has CNY 4.3bn ($623 m) investment earmarked, and is expected to generate CNY 750m annual profit on CNY 2.5bn revenue when in full operation. More than 1,000 new jobs will be created.
The plant licenses technology and processes from Inner Mongolia-based EG maker Tongliao GEM Chemical. It will be designed by China TianChen Engineering Corporation and constructed by China National Chemical Engineering Group Corporation.
Situated in northeastern China’s Yinchuan, Ningdong is growing into one of China’s major coal chemical clusters. It houses a number of Chinese heavyweights in the sector, including Shenhua Group and Sinopec affiliate Great Wall Energy and Chemical.
