Luoyang, Henan – State-owned Liming Institute has recently developed a new polyurethane potting sealant that is able to cure under room temperature. The material has been granted a patent in China.
Liming Institute has started mass production of the material, which is used for sealing cable, wire and electronic devices in the aerospace, shipbuilding and automotive sectors.
According to local reports, the potting sealant is a dual-component reactive material with twice the mechanical strength of similar sealants. It can maintain over 95% of its properties in high humidity environments.
In addition to the lower curing temperature, the new product also mixes easily and has lower uncured viscosity. This makes it suitable for use in devices with intricate shape and structure. It also has better adhesion with metal, plastic, rubber and other base materials compared with similar products, the reports added.
The new material is less fragile and more resistant to both high and low temperature than epoxy resin, and also is stronger and has better adhesion to substrates compared with silicone materials. It could be used as a replacement for both materials, said the reports.
