Beijing – China exported 2.2m foam mattresses and cushions in March 2021, up 16% from a year ago. This maintains January and February’s levels.
While the weight of these exports rose by 38% to 9200 tons, the value of these exports shot up by 60% year on year to $51m, according to China’s General Administration of Customs.
Although these are significant rises in volume and value, the numbers are well below pre-pandemic levels. In March 2019, the country exported 28m units, with an export value of $68m, and weight of 15,300 tons.
China’s exports over the first three months of 2021 were 6.7m units, up 40% from the same period in 2020. However, the three-month export value surged by 91% year on year to $163m, and the mattresses got bigger, with the weight of exports jumping by 69% to 29,500 tons.
Japan continued to be China’s largest overseas market in value, with $11m goods shipped last month. The US was in second place with $5.9m, followed by Korea with $4.6m.
