Beijing – China exported 5.9m refrigerators and freezers in May 2020, up 5.5% from a year ago. The value of these exports fell by 4.3% year-on-year to $631m, according to China’s General Administration of Customs.
China’s export in May still outperformed April, representing a 10% growth in volume and a 4% growth in value.
Export over the first 5 months of 2020 arrived at 22m units, up 3.9% compared with the same period in 2019. The five-month total export value, however, contracted by 1.2% year-on-year, to $2.56bn.
In May China’s production of refrigerators, excluding freezers, jumped 7.4% from May 2019 to 7.8m units, said the National Bureau of Statistics. This compares with a 3.3% drop year-on-year in April. Four-month production of refrigerators declined 12.7% from a year ago, to 28.5m units.
The country’s freezer production continued upbeat in May, registering a 47.5% hike from a year ago to 2.3m units. Five-month production of freezers rose by 18.9% to 9.4m units.
