Beijing – China's trade in PTMEG was almost flat between the first half of 2019 and 2020 at recorded 19.1kT. PTMEG is a key raw material for polyurethane elastane.
Over the first half of this year, the country imported 24.1kT of the material, down 6.4% year on year, according to Chem366.com, a news portal for the polyurethane sector in China.
Taiwan remained China’s largest supplier, followed by Korea and Japan. Taiwan and Korea had a combined share of 95% in H1 2020, compared with a 94.7% share in 2019.
Last year, China’s PTMEG exports surged by 211%, while in H1 2020 it declined by 16.6% to 5kT, said Chem366.com.
The three largest export markets continued to be Singapore, Korea and Thailand, together accounting for 90.3% of demand. This compares to an 85.7% share in 2019.
