Beijing –- China exported 11m refrigerators and freezers in Q1 2020, down by 3.9% compared with Q1 2019.
The value of exports dropped 7.2% to $1.3bn, said China’s General Administration of Customs.
Exports in March alone were 4.6m units, up 0.9% from March 2019. The value was $552m, representing a 2% decrease year on year.
China’s household refrigerator production in Q1 reached 13.7m units, down by 19.8% from a year ago, said the National Bureau of Statistics.
The numbers significantly improved compared with the first two months in 2020, when production fell by 37.2%. In the same period in 2019 China produced 6.7m units.
Freezer production in the first quarter of this year declined by 2.7% to 4.6m units. This compares to a 25.6% drop over the first two months to 1.8m units.
In March alone China produced 7.3m units refrigerators and 2.4m freezer units, up 4% and 19.1% respectively from a year ago.
