By Liz White, UT staffDüsseldorf, Germany-Speciality chemicals supplier Cognis is to work with leading European chemicals distributor IMCD Group in future for the paints and coatings market. From 1 Jan 2006, Cognis will use three IMCD subsidiaries for this purpose:-Interorgana GmbH & Co. KG-based in Cologne, Germany; -Internatio BV-based in Rotterdam, the Netherlands; and-IMCD Austria GmbH-based in Vienna, Austria. These three operations will be responsible for the distribution of Cognis raw ingredients in Germany, Austria and the Benelux countries, with other countries to be added to the new network in due course, said Cognis. Pointing out that "paint and coatings manufacturers expect a lot of their raw material suppliers," Cognis added that this applies not only to making innovative, high-quality products, but also in offering "excellent customer service, and a strong distribution network." This is the logic behind the decision to establish a joint distribution network with IMCD for Cognis ingredients for the paint and coatings industry. Partnership with IMCD allows Cognis to offer customers in Europe a "well-developed distribution network" and an "excellent level of service," said Cognis European distribution manager, Carsten Baumann, in a company statement. "The key factor in our decision was industry experience, he said, adding that IMCD "has a proven track record in meeting the technical requirements of the paint and coatings, adhesives, inks and polymerization categories."
