Milan, Italy – Speciality polyol company, Coim has bought 50% of Austria's Atmosa to secure supplies of phthalic anhydride (PA).
Coim uses PA in a number of products including polyols.
'This gives us access to production of phthalic anhydride,' said Alessandro Passerini, Coim CEO in a telephone interview. 'PA is of great value for polyester polyols. Our interest is to secure a source of phthalic anhydride'.
Passerini said that his PU business specialises in polyester polyols and polyurethanes for the CASE sector.
Coim has five plants: one in Europe; two in New Jersey; one in New Delhi; one in Brazil, near San Paolo; and one in Singapore. About half of the business is in EMEA and the rest is spread through the rest of the world.
The new company, called Atmosa Petrochemie, will remain located in Vienna. Atmosa was part of Chemie Linz until it was purchased by Dahin Group in 1995.
