Zhuhai, China – Covestro has broken ground on the its new TPU production site in Zhuhai,. It is to be built in three phases, and when fully completed will have a capacity of 120kT/year. It will be run on 100% renewable power.
The first phase is expected to be mechanically complete in 2025, with a capacity of 30kT/year. Completion of the final phase is expected in 2033, by which time the site will cover 45,000m2. It will be Covestro’s largest global TPU site.
Located in Guangdong province, a major hub for China’s IT, consumer electronics and footwear industries, all of which are significant users of TPU. An innovation centre will be constructed as part of the second phase of investment, where customised formulations can be created for individual customers.
