Map Ta Phut, Thailand – Covestro has started building a new plant to make the raw materials used in its Vulkollan polyurethane elastomer products. These are used in highly demanding industrial applications where abrasion resistance and high mechanical strength are needed, Covestro said.
No capacity was given, but the investment was described as being in the high-to-mid double-digit million euro range. Production is expected to start at the end of 2022, and 25 people will be employed at the site.
'[The investment is] supporting our customers' demand,' said Michael Friede, head of Covestro's coatings, adhesives, specialties segment. He added that it is also an investment in the future global growth applications and industries with high-end requirements.
