Leverkusen — Covestro’s European MDI and TDI facilities are operating at reduced capacity due to a production outage at a supplier of nitric acid.
Covestro declared force majeure on October 6, 2016 and according to the firm, its raw material supplier’s facility will restart production on or after on December 11, 2016.
“On the basis of this information, Covestro is striving to gradually restore its production output to a normal level,” the firm said in a press release issued on Friday, October 14.
It also said it is unable to fully compensate for the missing quantities of raw materials through purchases from other manufacturers.
Covestro ceo Patrick Thomas said his firm“deeply regret this restriction”.
“Despite the extent of this issue, we in total do not expect a negative impact on our declared business targets for 2016.”
Today, (24 October, 2016) Lars Boelke, external communications, financial and business media, said the firm was unable to say exactly when full capacity would be reached again, nor what level of MDI/TDI it could supply to its clients.
He added that more information may become available by mid November.
