Gujarat, India – Covestro has opened a state-of-the-art production facility for Desmodur aliphatic isocyanates at its site in Ankleshwar, Gujarat, with the aim of further strengthening its global supply chain. It will manufacture a comprehensive range of the products by the fourth quarter of this year.
The trimers are used as hardeners in PU coating systems and adhesives, giving durability and resistance to environmental factors such as UV light, chemicals and abrasion. They have applications in areas such as automotive, construction, wooden furniture and consumer electronics.
“We are continuously investing in production capabilities in Asia to fortify our leading position in the aliphatic isocyanates business and provide high-quality products to our customers wherever they operate in the region,” said Thomas Roemer, the company’s global head of coatings & adhesives.
The expansion fits in with Covestro India’s commitment to the “Make in India” initiative. This focuses on bolstering local manufacturing capabilities, creating jobs, technology transfer and contributing to India's position as a global manufacturing hub. It is also designed to support sustainable manufacturing practices, reducing carbon emissions, and aligning with the company's circularity goals.
