Leverkusen, Germany -- Covestro has started producing aqueous polyurethane dispersions at its Dormagen, Germany site, and is increasing volume in Barcelona, Spain sites. No capacity was disclosed.
The new capacity is designed to meet rising demand from the coatings and adhesives industry, the company said. ‘Manufacturers remain determined to replace solvent-based products with more sustainable waterborne systems that have equally good properties,’ the company added.
Michael Friede, global head of Covestro’s coatings, adhesives and specialities segment, said, ‘We are preparing for the continued growing demand for polyurethane dispersions. Our tailored products allow for many applications in very different industries.’
The products are sold under a number of Covestro brands. Bayhydrol UH, U and V and Bayhytherm are component base-coats for automotive OEM, wood, furniture and floor coatings.
Dispercoil U materials are used to make shoes and furniture and are also used in the auto industry.
Impranil grades are aimed at the coated textiles and synthetic PU products, while Baybond products are used to size glass fibres.
