Antwerp, Belgium – Covestro plans to invest about EUR 300m in a new aniline production site at its Antwerp facility. The unit is expected in to go on stream in 2022.
Aniline is a precursor chemical used in MDI production.
'Our Antwerp site plays a crucial role in Covestro's supply and production network, and this investment proves it will continue to do so in the future', said Volker Weintritt, managing director of Covestro Amsterdam. '[This will include] increasing capacities at our Spanish site in Tarragona.'
He added that this investment will make the supply of the company's European MDI network more efficient, and sustainable.
The design and process technology used in the new Antwerp site will be based on in-house technology, the company said.
