Leverkusen, Germany – Several thermoplastic polyurethane films from Covestro’s Dureflex range have been given Standard 100 certification from Oeko-Tex. The films range are used in outdoor clothing, sports articles, furniture and automotive seating, and are breathable, waterproof, tear-resistant and skin-friendly.
This Oeko-Tex certification follows the 2019 certification of several TPU film grades from Covestro’s Platilon brand, which are manufactured in Europe. The Dureflex products are made in South Deerfield, Massachusetts.
The films received certification for product class I, which means they are free from harmful substances, and are resistant to saliva. This class applies to articles intended for direct skin contact for infants and children under three, the highest requirement for skin compatibility.
Oeko-Tex (more formally the International Association for Research and Testing in the Field of Textile and Leather Ecology) is a global independent testing and certification association for textiles. The test criteria for Standard 100 certification often exceed those of national and international standards bodies, and are intended to inspire consumer confidence in materials.
