Pennsylvania, US – Covestro is investing more than $40m in a series of modernisation and technical upgrades across its nine-building US headquarters in Pittsburgh. The site is one of the company’s three R&D hubs, along with Leverkusen, Germany and Shanghai, China.
The investments will include a renovation of the existing PU R&D facilities, with new state-of-the-art laboratories being created. Equipment and machinery will be upgraded to better serve customers in key industries, including automotive and construction. The overall look and feel of the campus will also be refreshed, and office facilities modernised.
The construction industry represents about 20% of the company’s business, and its own materials and customer products are being used in many aspects of the campus retrofit. This includes roof insulation, and both interior and exterior paints.
“We are committed to the US market as a whole and to Pittsburgh as our North American headquarters,” said Samir Hifri, chairman and president of Covestro LLC. “These enhancements to our headquarters and R&D facilities set the stage for long-term growth in the US.”
The improvements are expected to be completed by 2026.
