Govil: sustainability
The new Shanghai facility is part of a wider investment plan by Covestro in elastomers, including at sites in Thailand and Spain. It said the new Shanghai plant will help meet growing demand in Asia-Pacific, particularly for renewable energy applications including offshore cable protection and silicon wafer cutting rollers for photovoltaic panels.
“We provide materials that help to facilitate a more climate-neutral and circular world,” said Sucheta Govil, Covestro’s chief commercial officer. “We are supporting the growth of an industry that is vital for preserving our climate. Furthermore, we are promoting sustainability in various industries by supplying materials containing renewable attributes.”
The site is ISCC Plus certified, and therefore can deliver mass-balanced materials derived from renewable attributed products that can reduce the carbon footprint of products.
