Kissimmee, Florida -- Elevance Boimaterials has moved into polyols and is aiming at the coatings, adhesives and TPU markets, Bruce Grotefend, market development manager told UTECH-polyurethane.com.
Grotefend was speaking on the eve of the 2015 CPI Polyurethanes Technical Conference which runs here from 5-7 October 2015.
He said that his firm has moved into polyols production for the C18-based materials.
“We did that quite easily,” he said. Grotefend added that the move was “in response to an industry that was interested in polyols” rather than the precursors Elevance was marketing at the time of the last CPI meeting.
The polyols can be blended with a range of other polyols such as butanediol, and proplylene glycol, he added.
“We can develop a range of polyols to give polymers with different melting points and other physical properties,” he said
The C18 polyols can produce polyurethanes with properties similar to formulations based on polyester polyols and the hydrolysis resistance similar to polyethers are gathering interest, Grotefend said.
The first market to accept them in formulations is likely to be coatings, followed by adhesives and then TPU, Grotefend added.
