Arlington, Virginia - Automotive suppliers and manufacturers will find sustainability in the sector covered in detail at the Polyurethanes 2010 Technical Conference this October. This meeting, sponsored by Center for the Polyurethanes Industry (CPI), in partnership with UTECH North America exhibition, will take place 11- 13 Oct 2010, at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas.
"Almost all of the automotive papers at this year's conference are focused on innovation while at the same time meeting productivity and performance goals," said Neeva-Gayle Candelori, CPI's director, in a 30 Aug statement.
The first automotive session is from Evonik Goldschmidt, on "advances in emanation reduction and renewable content," and will provide guidance on maximising the usage level of natural oil-based polyols in high-resilience moulded foam.
A study on non-shrink multipurpose foam for manufacturing automobile seat pads will be offered by Kumho Mitsui Chemicals, and Air Products and Chemicals will present catalyst technology for the reduction of emanations and VOCs for the automotive interior. Dow Chemical Co. will discuss flexible moulded foam for car-seat production with low-VOC emissions, as well as a novel sandwich structure made of innovative materials that can be used in the load floor.
Testing and recycling are the themes for the second automotive session, where Woodbridge Group will present a review of automotive seating foam hardness and recommended improved testing methodology. Woodbridge will also show findings on seating foam durability over a vehicle's useable service lifetime.
TrimaBond llc aims to keep scrap materials from landfills, and will show how one-component, moisture-cured MDI binders can be used to turn shredded automotive headliner scrap into structural and non-structural parts for vehicles, tractor trailers, recreational vehicles or marine vessels.
Automotive industry representatives will find the sustainability session of interest: this will review the Federal Trade Commission "Green Guides" and how consumers make decisions with respect to green products.
