Composites group Gurit has made a temporary staff cut at its Canadian structural foam plant in Magog. The Swiss group said it has temporarily reduced the work force at he plant by 125 people.
Gurit said: "Since the beginning of the financial crisis in 2008 and throughout 2009, marine and wind energy market demand for Corecell structural foam products has been fluctuating greatly from quarter to quarter and Gurit subsequently had to adjust its workforce frequently in both directions."
The company said the new cutback is likely to be transitory and it expects to call the first people back within two months and the majority within six months.
The measures are not expected to cause any restructuring costs. Gurit manufactures some polyurethane coatings for the marine industry including the varnish Ultravar 2000 Spraying Solvent.
