Birmingham, UK-Design software specialist Delcam announced 12 Jan that is has bought Crispin Systems Ltd, a leading specialist supplier of software to the footwear sector. The move has "reinforced its position as the world's leading supplier of CADCAM (computer-aided design/manufacture) systems to the footwear industry," Delcam said.
Combining Delcam and Crispin products and expertise allows Delcam to offer a software range to the industry that is "second to none," the group added.
"Sales are currently especially strong in the Far East, with existing customers expanding their use of technology and large new factories been opened," said Delcam's statement,
"The addition of Crispin to the Delcam group will give us much higher visibility and an even larger number of customers - around 2000 in total - in the footwear industry, in particular reinforcing our position in the sports shoe sector," said Delcam's managing director Hugh Humphreys, in the announcement.
"I am pleased that all of the company's staff have agreed to continue to work for the company from the current base in Leicester," he added, pointing out that this adds an experienced team of footwear specialists to Delcam's existing footwear experts.
Delcam says that for 20 years, Crispin has supplied software for design and manufacture of lasts, uppers and soles, adding a new range of systems for orthopaedic applications last year. Crispin's software covers key stages in product development: capture of CAD data for lasts from physical models; creation of 3D shoe designs to advertising quality; and production of 2D patterns.
Its new orthopaedic range "is similarly comprehensive," said Delcam. This includes products for scanning feet in 3D, modifying orthopaedic lasts from a scanned foot template, creation of 3D designs, and advanced flattening from 3D to 2D. PIC: Footwear design software from Crispin."
