Osnabrueck, Germany - A tubing company has announced the winners of its Design und Media Awards, an innovation and creativity promotion for students.
The award, presented on 18 Jan 2011 by hose technology company Polyvanced, recognises innovative works based around the idea of what tubing can add to interior architecture.
First prize was awarded to Valerie Geyer , 21, and Laura Göttsch, 20, from Hanover Technical University, who created a 'loop hanger' - a tube, a loop and hanger rolled into one. The object consists of a wood frame construction with insertion holes and tubing fixtures.
Dr Robert Mayr, Polyvanced ceo, said: "This construction is simple, practical, it can be used on an individual basis and it looks interesting."
He added: "We were fired with enthusiasm when we saw the sheer quality of the ideas that poured in. Many of them explore creative new uses and applications for the flexibility and individuality of tubing."
Other winning designs included a 'tube garden', which transforms a corrugated tube into a house plant holder, and 'knit a tube' - a multi-functional knitted tubing item that can be used as a seat, a sculpture or a climbing frame. LMH
