Houston, Texas - Additives maker Dorf Ketal Chemicals llc is expanding its capacity in India and Brazil, a move which it said is intended, "to better meet the needs of additive, adhesive and other speciality chemical customers."
Part of the expansion will be used to make antioxidants for polyurethanes, the company said.
The new facilities will allow Dorf Ketal to offer a wider product range and strengthen its ability to make custom chemicals, the group's 14 Dec statement added.
"Dorf Ketal is committed to producing best-of-breed stock and specialty chemicals for customers across a wide spectrum of industries," said Bill Loven, the newly appointed president, North America, in the statement. "Looking at current production, these expansion projects will offer more options and shorter delivery times across the globe. Strategic projects in Singapore and Egypt will also soon be announced," he added.
Dorf Ketal's Taloja, India, facility houses the group's R&D facility, pilot plant and is the main centre for petroleum process chemicals production. New infrastructure is being built to support a hydrogen reformer; an updated effluent treatment plant and quality control labs are already under construction.
Ongoing additions include:
- An antioxidant unit for the manufacturing of chemicals used in the polyurethane, water treatment, optical and fine chemical industries
- Ethoxylation capacity will grow 5000 tonnes to cater to increased demulsifier demand
- A loop reactor has been commissioned for high pressure and highly exothermic reactions for speciality chemicals
- Due to the acquisition of ExxonMobil Chemical's component additive division, new equipment is being installed to increase capacity by 8000 tonnes
Dorf Ketal has also acquired 10 hectares of land in Jamnagar, India, to build a facility to handle its export business and provide production redundancy for other facilities.
The company has also bought two hectares of land in Bahia, Brazil, and will install a 3000-tonne batch facility to make additives to serve the lubricant, fuel and adhesive industries and meet the growing needs in Brazil and Argentina, the company said.
