Schwalbach, Germany – Dow Automotive Systems is supplying polyurethane adhesives to LEVC for its range of TX taxis.
The hybrid-electric London Taxi's aluminium body is bonded with Betamate and Beaforce polyurethane adhesives.
'The result is a fully-bonded body that is stronger and significantly lighter than an equivalent steel construction,' said Christophe Van Herreweghe, marketing manager Adhesives.
Windows and glass elements were bonded with Dow's Betaseal products.
Additionally, the taxis feature a 1.5 l engine for longer trips. However their light-weight construction gives them a range of 80n miles (130 km) on a single charge.
The taxis are made near Coventry in the English midlands.
