Midland, Michigan -- Dow Chemical Co. declared force majeure for all polyether polyol products manufactured at Freeport, Texas on 19 Sept. The step is necessary following Hurricane Ike, "which has severely disrupted Dow's ability to safely and properly produce these products," said Dow, in a company statement
Dow also attributed the move to widespread disruption in power and utilities, raw material supplies and logistics, including those generated by the earlier storm, Hurricane Gustav. These have all "slowed down Dow's recovery efforts and a return to normal operations, shipments, and deliveries."
Dow temporarily idled the polyols plant at Freeport to prepare for Hurricane Ike. It has remained idle while damage was assessed, and is| "only now is being mobilised to resume production," said the group.
Dow has notified customers and said it will update them over the coming days.
