Schwalbach, Germany -- Dow Automotive Systems highlighted a range of plastic technology for automotive applications at the recent VDI-K conference and exhibition in Manheim, Germany, including plastic bonding adhesives, epoxies, elastomers and polyurethanes.
The automotive subsidiary is introducing foam solutions, which are currently used by several North American OEMs, for instrument panels and interior trim applications in Europe, which, according to Dow, offer reduced weight, improved airbag deployment and fast cycle times.
The company is also highlighting its Synexa fast-curing epoxy composites for bonnets, roofs and structural-body-in-white parts that are compatible with glass and carbon fibre, Dow said, adding that these composites offer up to 40 percent weight saving compared to steel. (RD)
