Friant, California -- Dow Chemical Co. has joined the Speciality Sleep Association's (SSA) mattress and bedding "Green Initiative," an SSA statement said recently, later confirmed by Dow spokeswoman, Jessica Dub.
"Defining what 'green' means and establishing industry-wide 'green' standards is a critical step in helping businesses and consumers alike make better buying decisions," said Umberto Torresan, global marketing manager for Renuva Natural Oil Polyols, Dow Polyurethanes.
In a phone conversation with Urethanes Technology International, Jessica Dub said that Dow, along with the SSA, is working towards achieving a green label system to standardise the renewable 'green' content in mattresses.
"We look forward to Dow's involvement with the SSA and the 'Green Initiative' as we create and set definitions, terms and standards of green products in the bedding industry," said SSA president, Dale Read.
Dow is a major producer of polyether polyols and isocyanates used to create flexible polyurethane foam used in the mattress and bedding industry. (RD)
