Midland, Michigan -- Dow Polyurethanes is offering new silane-modified polymers (SMP) aimed at the CASE (coatings, adhesives, sealants and elastomers) markets.
Dow describes these Voraisil-brand materials as a "cost-effective breakthrough in adhesive and sealant solutions." The SMPs are a proprietary, unique hybrid comprised of a polyurethane backbone and silane end groups, allowing for a balance of low viscosity and fast ambient cure time.
Vorasil SMP allow adhesive and sealant manufacturers to formulate materials to reach targeted performance results while also" achieving silicone-like properties without silicone cost," Dow said.
Vorasil 602 and 604 SMP were unveiled at the Adhesives and Sealants Conference 22 Oct in Louisville, Kentucky.
These new products offer substantial handling and sustainability advantages over other conventional industry options, according to Dow, which says they were rigorously tested with adhesive and sealant customers.
Vorasil SMP can be custom-formulated to achieve:
• Improved balance of viscosity and cure time
• Versatile in property space with ability to tailor to specific needs
• Tunable final properties without processing compromise
• Enhanced mechanical performance
• UV stability and weatherability
• High temperature stability
• Oil and hydrocarbon resistance

Vorasil 602 and 604 SMP can be used separately or blended to provide a wide breadth of properties, providing manufacturers with freedom of design. The materials are available for sampling, and Vorasil 602 is available for broad customer validation.
