By David Reed, UT EditorPriolo, Italy-Dow Chemical Co. has announced the closure of its propylene oxide derivatives plant here, effective 1 April. The facility had capacity for 68 kilotonnes per annum (ktpa) of polyether polyols and also made propylene glycol and derivatives as well as ethylene oxide. The unit has been shutdown since January last year when Syndial, the former EniChem business, closed its PO and chlorine facilities on the same site."We will work very hard to minimise the social impact," said Flavio Terruzzi, president and managing director of Dow Italy, in the 1 April announcement. Dow also said it was trying to assess opportunities for relocation or early retirement of the 59 employees in Priolo and would "support specific needs, as appropriate."
