Midland, Michigan -- Dow Building Solutions has announced that it will close two of its sites making polyisocyanurate (polyiso) insulation in North America in order to further uphold its growth strategy in the building and constructions industry.
The company, which is a business unit of the Dow Chemical Co., said in its 10 Oct statement that it will close its facilities in Texarkana, Arkansas (mid-January) and Tracy, California (mid-December) as a result of "low asset utilisation and low profitability, as well as the need for significant investment compared to other opportunities," said Dow.
"We are preferentially investing in technology and growth opportunities that provide valuable solutions for the building industry," said Torsten Kraef vice president of Dow Building Solutions, in the statement.
"The reconfiguration of our polyiso assets enables us to pursue additional projects that deliver value both to our customers and to Dow," he added.
"This announcement positions two of our North American polyiso facilities for further investment and improvements," said Kraef.
As a result of the closure, Dow Building Solutions will upgrade its facilities in Charleston, Illinois and Pennsauken New Jersey, said the company.
Rigid polyiso foam is used in general insulation applications, such as residential and commercial walls and roofing. ss
