Birch Vale, UK -- Verdiseal -- a polyurethane waterproofing system from the Dow Chemical Co. has become a preferred choice for architects and engineers in "green roof" projects, the company said in a 10 Nov statement.
The spray-applied PU, Dow said, creates a seamless monolithic barrier across the roof deck, side walls and any sloping surfaces in between.
"Green roofs are sprouting up everywhere around the world and, as they do, design and construction standards are evolving," said John Knoblich, North American marketing manager, Dow Formulated Systems. Verdiseal, Knoblich continued, addresses the practical realities of putting a garden on top of a roof.
As well as water resistance, the membrane is also durable enough to resist penetration from invasive roots which can cause tears and leaks, the statement said.
The product was launched by Dow at the GreenBuild International Conference and Expo in Boston, held 18 - 21 Nov 2008. (RD)
