Dubai, United Arab Emirates - A cloud of black smoke from a fire at a bed factory owned Intercoil International obscured parts of Dubai on Friday 14 May, reports The National newspaper (www.thenational.ae).
The fire, at Intercoil's plant in the Al Quoz industrial district, began at about 11am and a witness told the paper that factory workers were throwing blocks of foam from the building onto the road.
Intercoil's website says it makes orthopaedic beds and furniture using polyurethane foam. The company recently expanded outside the UAE, setting up a distribution centre and retail outlet in the Lebanon in February 2010.
