Canton, Massachusetts-Avitar has taken on Dukal Corp. as distributor for its Hydrasorb polyurethane foam wound-dressings in the US, from 1 Jan 2007, replacing the existing distributor.
Dukal will distribute the dressings to hospitals and other healthcare facilities throughout the US.
Calling Dukal a "recognised industry leader," Peter Phildius, chairman and chief executive officer of Avitar, said in a company statement, "We are pleased … about working with Dukal to expand Hydrasorb's share of the speciality woundcare market."
Gerry LoDuca, president of Dukal, commented that, "Hydrasorb is a well-established product that fits nicely with our long-term growth strategy," and indicated that his company will work with Avitar to further develop use of Hydrasorb in wound care.
Avitar says Hydrasorb, which uses proprietary polyurethane technology, is a highly absorbent topical dressing for moderate to heavy exuding wounds. A unique construction in the dressings gives a "moist wound-healing environment, which promotes skin growth and closure, " Avitar claims.
Dukal, headquartered in Hauppauge, New York, makes and markets a wide variety of wound-care and speciality patient-care products for all medical markets. As well as customised polyurethane wound dressings, Avitar develops products in oral fluid diagnostis, disease and clinical testing"
