Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania -and construction continues to build momentum. The latest US boost to sustainable building came in early February, when President Barack Obama unveiled his Better Building Initiative, a plan to dramatically improve the energy efficiency of America's businesses over the next decade.
Likewise, the momentum surrounding Bayer MaterialScience llc's EcoCommercial Building (ECB) Network continues to grow, with the addition of specialty alliances with PJ Dick Incorporated and Burns & Scalo Roofing.
"President Obama's recent speech at Penn State University made clear the need to make buildings more energy efficient. His call to innovate is in step with the goals of the ECB Network and validates the progressive model upon which the network is based," said Paul Platte, head, EcoCommercial Building Program, North America (NA), Bayer MaterialScience.
"With this in mind, we are particularly excited by the addition of PJ Dick Incorporated and Burns & Scalo Roofing. By establishing alliance relationships with a professional contracting company and roof/envelope solution provider, we are able to provide an even broader range of energy efficient building expertise to the sustainable building market," Platte added.
PJ Dick offers leadership in general contracting, preconstruction, agency construction management, and construction management at risk and design-build services. The company also is committed to sustainability, both internally and externally.
Burns & Scalo, a roofing and building-envelope specialist based in Pittsburgh, also shares a commitment to sustainability by providing customers with a full-array of energy saving and environmentally friendly construction services designed to keep buildings air and water tight.
"From the foundation to the rooftop, we help maximise a building's environmental efficiency by constructing and installing sheetmetal wall systems, skylights, sun shades, foundation waterproofing, vegetative green roofing, commercial roof systems, as well as solar energy systems," according to Jack Scalo, president, Burns & Scalo.
Scalo added, "It is important to our company to stay in front of changing regulations and revolutionise the industry with new construction technologies. Our involvement with Bayer's ECB Network positions us at the forefront of the sustainable building industry."
