Helsinki - The European Chemicals Agency ECHA has launched a public consultation on 54 new potential Substances of Very High Concern (SVHCs).
Among the substances included in this latest list is propylene oxide, with concerns over the material as a carcinogen and a mutagenic agent.
ECHA's public consultation is open for 45 days and will end on 18 Oct 2012. Interested parties can post their comments on the ECHA website.
Of the 54 new substances, 37 were proposed by the European Commission, while the rest were proposed by individual countries.
Within the 54, 44 are proposed on the basis of their classifications as carcinogenic, mutagenic and/or toxic for reproduction (REACH Article 57(a-c)).
