Helsinki -- Occupational exposure limits for diisocyanates are being investigated by the European Chemicals Agency.
The industry and other interested parties have untill 23:59 Helsinki Time (EET) on 16 December 2019 to comment on the ECHA's proposals.
The ECHA is not proposing a limit at this stage. Instead it is recommending to RAC to 'further develop the approach to derive an exposure response based on a weight of evidence assessment of three identified key documents presenting exposure responses for respiratory sensitisation.'
The ECHA also recommends that the concentration of diisocyanate group should be used to find the exposure-response.
This is to apply ly 'to all diisocyanates.'
The exposure response will be used to generate an eight-hour occupational exposure limit.
A 15 minute short term exposure limit will also be derived. This will be up to 5x OEL.
