Delaware, Ohio -- Matthews Paint, a major supplier to the architectural sign industry, has developed a low-VOC (volatile organic compound) acrylic polyurethane which has an environmental impact to rival that of water-based paints, the company claimed in a 13 April statement.
MAP Ultra Low VOC (MAP-LV), which is formulated to deliver less than 50 g/l (0.4172 lbs/gal) VOC in standard solid colour applications, has greater durability, gloss retention and covering ability than standard acrylic PU paints, Matthews said.
When compared to conventional industrial-grade polyurethanes, the statement said, MAP-LV showed twice the impact resistance in direct and reverse impact testing as well as 25 percent better gloss retention.
"The result is less paint being used and more efficient use of product per job," said Jan Scheske, manager, Marketing and Customer Service at Delaware, Ohio-based Matthews Paint. (RD)
