Ludwigshafen Germany — BASF said its Elastollan TPU material is being used by Mondi in its roomskin flooring material which features a decorative overlay with a good feel and high wear resistance.

BASF said the aliphatic Elastollan grades used are available in Shore Hardness from 75A to 80D, they are used as the top layer in the composite flooring materials. Mondi approached BASF with the idea of developing the application. "Thanks to the long-standing partnership with BASF, we were able to develop a transparent surface layer of Elastollan," said Alexander Ohneiser, application and process development, at Mondi Advanced Materials.

Using the TPU enabled Mondi to win Egger as a customer for Mondi's roomskin. This is being used in Egger's Design+ range of flooring. "Indentations caused  by every day use are automatically repaired," said Stephan Unger, head of retail marketing at Egger. He added that the consumer gets "more protection, better room acoustics and more comfort."
