Leverkusen, Germany -- Spanish firm Ingeteam has developed charging stations for electric cars, in close collaboration with Bayer MaterialScience and Policam SL.
"For the first time ever," said a BMS press release, "the housing is made of polyurethane:" robust rigid polyurethane foam. Two versions of the charging stations are available: one for outdoor installation on public roads and plazas, and a wall-mounted model for private homes.
BMS says more than 500 prototypes of the charging stations, made using Baydur 110 grade polyurethane, have already been installed at Spanish supermarkets, parking garages, conference and exhibition centres. So far the charging stations are available only in Spain, but expansion to other countries and continents is possible.
"This development is another example of how Bayer MaterialScience develops solutions for future mobility concepts," said Alp Sarici, a BMS marketing expert for polyurethane systems. "Unlike other plastic solutions, the polyurethane housings can also be produced profitably in small numbers, not least because the moulds are relatively inexpensive."
BMS's collaboration with Ingeteam was arranged by Policam, a long-standing partner of the Leverkusen-based company and also the manufacturer of the charging station housings.
Spain-based Ingeteam is a an electrical engineering and equipment specialist, primarily serving energy, industry and transport sectors, and is dedicated to lowering energy consumption and maximising efficiency.
Family owner moulder Policam, of Olérdola near Barcelona, in Spain, has made technical parts made from polyurethanes since 1999 and specialises in rigid parts made using Bayer materials.
