Brussels-EFCC, the European Federation for Construction Chemicals, is the name of a new association formed in Brussels 13 July. It brings together typical construction chemical manufacturers such as Sika AG, MC-Bauchemie and Remmers, as well as diversified chemicals groups including Degussa (construction chemicals division), BASF, Henkel and Wacker Chemie. The association is being set up because the laws and regulations affecting the construction chemicals industry today are increasingly determined by Europe. Examples include the construction products directive, material standards for concrete, and REACH (Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals).Dieter Poech, one of the best international experts on the sector, has been appointed Founding President of EFCC. From 1982 till 2001, Dieter Poech was CEO of SKW Trostberg, taking major responsibility for the development of construction chemicals at SKW/now Degussa AG. In selecting him, the EFCC members share the hope that the group of member companies and European member federations will quickly expand to become an effective instrument for getting the interests of the innovative industrial sector construction chemicals heard by the European institutions. Pieter van der Hoeven is managing director of EFCC, which is headquartered in Brussels and is an associated member of Cefic, the European Chemical Industry Council. "
